Field Trips & Tours

Improve your students' interest and enthusiasm by experiencing a fun-filled educational day at the Museum of Aviation. The Education Department at the museum is helping to improve opportunities for students and teachers throughout Georgia by offering a wide variety of exhilarating field trip programs specifically designed to correlate with the Georgia Performance and National Standards for each grade level Pre-K through 12. The Museum of Aviation continues to make a huge impact on nurturing and inspiring today's youth while providing exciting learning experiences through interaction and hands-on activities designed to increase students' enthusiasm in science, math and technology.

All Tours, Field Trips and Flight Schools must be scheduled, including Self-Guided Tours.  Please complete the Reservation Form and return by fax to Tamea Matthews at 478-926-0300.  You will receive a confirmation package within 48 business hours. Guided Tours (Ages 5 and up)

Guided Tours are scheduled on Tuesdays-Saturdays
Fee: $2.50 per person Time: Subject to Availability.

Guided Tours are 1 ½ hour history-based tours led by exceptionally trained tour guides.  The tour begins with many exciting exhibits in the Eagle Building and continues to the Heritage Building exploring our Native American History.  Guided Tour participants sit inside the C-130 Hercules Airplane for an actual inside-an-aircraft experience while watching a paratrooper film.  The minimum number of participants required for Guided Tours is 10 and the maximum is 90. Wonder Wings (Pre K-K)

Wonder Wings field trips are scheduled on Tuesday-Friday
Fee: $1.50 per student Time:10:00 am-11:15 am

Wonder Wings is a 1 ¼ hour field trip experience designed specifically for Pre-K and Kindergarten students.  Wonder Wings includes an up-close study of an F15 fighter jet focusing on the basic parts of an airplane.  The minimum number of students required for Wonder Wings is 10 and the maximum allowed is 40.  The Wonder Wings program is scheduled Tuesdays through Fridays. ACE Field Trips (K-7th)

ACE field trips are scheduled on Tuesday-Friday
Fee: $3.00 per student Time: 10:00 am-12:00 noon

ACE Field Trips are stimulating science-based activities designed to directly correlate to the science Georgia Performance and National Standards for each grade level.   Below is a list of key objectives for each grade level.  ACE Field Trips include a tour of the H-H3 rescue helicopter, sitting in the nose of an F-15 and hands-on science activities.  The minimum number of students required for ACE Field Trips is 15 and the maximum is 90.  ACE Field Trips are scheduled Tuesdays through Fridays.  For reservation form click here.

ACE Plus (K-7th)

Fee: $5.50 per student Time: 10:00 am-2:00 pm

ACE Plus includes an ACE Field Trip followed by a Guided Tour.  Students will participate in the ACE Field Trip, take a 30 minute lunch and then report to the Eagle Building to take part in the Guided Tour.  This is a great all day field trip.  For reservation form click here.

Self Guided Tour (All Ages)

Fee: Free

Organized groups may visit the Museum by appointment for self-guided tours.  Self-Guided Tours allow you to explore the Museum on your own at no charge.  Groups are requested to call for reservations.  The Museum of Aviation Flight and Technology Center is open daily from 9 am – 5 pm except Thanksgiving and Christmas.  For reservation form click here.

Scavenger Hunt (All Ages)

Learn about World War II airplanes and more while taking a trip through the Eagle Building on your very own Scavenger Hunt.  This motivational and interactive game can be played in teams, as a class or individually.  Students can enjoy their trek through the Eagle Building by playing the Scavenger Hunt in contest form or by providing a time frame in which to complete the Scavenger Hunt.  For Scavenger Hunt information, click here.

 

 

Mission Quest Flight Schools
(7th-12th)

(Mission Quest Brief and Mission Quest Expanded)

Fee: $7.50 Time: 9:00 am-2:00 p,

Flight Schools are aviation based activities which support the National Science Standards for grades 7-12.  Activities are also designed to increase students’ awareness of math, science and technology while improving leadership, communication, problem solving, and team-building skills.  Students study parts of an airplane, flight instruments, principles of flight and basic navigation.  Mission Quest Brief is a 4 hour program conducted in the Mission Quest Classroom and Simulator Lab. Mission Quest Expanded is an 8 hour program in which four hours of instruction are conducted in the school classroom by the Mission Quest Instructor and four hours of instruction/flying are conducted in the Mission Quest Classroom and Simulator Lab. The minimum number of students required for a Flight School is 8 and the maximum is 32.  For reservation form, click here

Mission Quest Plus (7th-12th)

Fee: $10 Time:9:00 am-2:00 pm

Mission Quest Plus includes Mission Quest Expanded or Mission Quest Brief along with a Guided Tour.  This option is strongly recommended for groups with over 16 participants.  The students split into two groups.  While one group is flying the simulators, the other group takes the Guided Tour.

 

The Museum of Aviation’s policy requires adult chaperones at the ratio of one adult per every 10 students.  Required chaperones receive scheduled field trip programs free of charge.  Additional chaperones/adults are required to pay the applicable program fee. 

After completing the Education Program of your choice, students and teachers are encouraged to explore the remainder of the Museum on their own.

LUNCH OPTIONS

You may purchase your lunch from the Victory Café and enjoy dining in the Observation Deck.  Please call 478-926-1847 for complete details on how to order lunch. 

FREEDOM PARK
