General Support Opportunities

Greeter/Visitor Desk

Each exhibit building has a visitor desk,  Volunteers welcome and greet the Visitors in the Museum, as well as, assist visitors in any way necessary. In addition to welcoming visitors, greeters also walk the floors of the Museum while Visitors are present to keep a watchful eye. Hours are Mon – Sat, 9:00am – 5:00pm. The morning shift is 9:00am – 1:00pm and the afternoon shift is 1:00pm-5:00pm.  Sun hours are 1:00 – 5:00pm. We are closed on New Year’s Day, Easter, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day.  Volunteers can work one or more 4 hour shifts and no military or aviation experience is required.  Training is provided on the job.

Archives/Library

Archive/Library Volunteers perform tasks in the Archives and Library section of the Museum. This Volunteer works under direction of the Curator and the Collection Manager. Hours for this position are Monday thru Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm. Hours worked by Volunteers are agreed upon between the Volunteer and Curator.

Aircraft Restoration

Aircraft Restoration Volunteers  work under direction of the Head of Restoration or his appointee. Volunteers in this position need to have mechanical, sheet metal or aircraft frame experience. Hours for this position are Monday thru Friday 7:00am-3:00pm, and Saturday mornings 9:00am-12:00pm. Hours worked by Volunteers are agreed upon between the Volunteer and Restoration staff.

Education Volunteer Opportunities

The National STEM Academy is an interesting, educational and exciting environment in which to volunteer.  Our Volunteer & Internship Program offers opportunities for high school students (11th-12th grades), college students and adults. Internship opportunities for college students are available in Education, Marketing and Informational Technology (IT).

High School Volunteers

The National STEM Academy offers volunteer opportunities for high school students (11th-12th grades) year round who will assist with our various special events and Summer Camps.  Volunteers will help with classroom/event set-up and clean-up, assisting younger students with activities, as well as other duties as assigned.

College Interns

The National STEM Academy offers unpaid internships for college students in Education, Marketing and Informational Technology (IT).  Interns will design and publish weekly summer camp newsletters, take photographs and create social media posts. Additionally, interns will assist instructors with planning and camp activities, and other duties as assigned.

Adult Volunteers

The National STEM Academy welcomes adult volunteers to assist with a variety of educational and special event opportunities.
