Boy Scout Aviation Merit Badge Program

Cost: $12.50 per scout
The purpose of this 6-hour program is to provide an opportunity for Boy Scouts to complete a portion of the requirements for the Aviation Merit Badge. The program consists of 3 classroom sessions, flight time in the Mission Quest simulators and a Guided Tour. The minimum number of participants allowed in each session is 10 and maximum 30. CLASSROOM CURRICULUM
Basic Flight PrinciplesScouts will study and explore the four forces that act on an airplane, Bernoulli’s Principle and the principle of Lift and the purposes of the primary flight controls.
Aircraft Instruments
Scouts will learn to identify and explain the purpose of the Altitude Indicator, Altimeter, Airspeed Indicator, Compass, Turn and Bank Indicator, Tachometer, Oil Pressure Gauge and Temperature Gauge.
Aeronautical Charts
Scouts will learn to read an Aeronautical Chart, measure a true course and determine a heading.
The program also focuses on decision making, powered aircraft history, careers in aviation, jet engine theory of operation, propeller theory, pre-flight of a real T-38, reciprocating engine operation, latitude and longitude.
Guided Tour
Scouts will enjoy a history-based Guided Tour of the Museum of Aviation.
Mission Quest Flight Simulators
Scouts will plan and fly a humanitarian mission in the Mission Quest flight simulators.

After the classroom curriculum, scouts will split into two groups, Group A and Group B. Group A will enjoy a Guided Tour while Group B plans and flies a humanitarian mission in the Mission Quest flight simulators. At the conclusion of the Guided Tour for Group A, the groups will swap.
